Should I bring anything to a drum clinic featuring one of my favorite drummers?
There’s gonna be a drum clinic at a local music store near me. Jason Bitter (drummer from Shadows Fall) will be featured. I’m a drummer myself and a fan of the band. I’ve never gone to a drum clinic before. Should I bring anything with me in case he’s gonna autograph stuff?
If it’s a clinic, I would be less worried about what he’s going to sign and more worried about how I’m going to remember his presentation. Bring a pencil and notebook of blank sheet music; learn shorthand music notation if you don’t already know it. (A camera isn’t a bad idea either, but be careful about video. Some sponsored or endorsing drummers have sold their video rights and filming them without consent could be illegal). Take notes on his technique and exercises then quickly annotate the rhythms you like. You don’t need to get everything, just enough to remind you of the important stuff for when you want to use it to practice later. If you really need an autograph, he can sign the notebook after.
